HIV Treatment

Consistent treatment with HIV medication enables individuals living with HIV to achieve an undetectable status. This means there’s effectively no risk of transmitting HIV to others through sexual activity.

The treatment, known as antiretroviral therapy (ART), involves regularly taking a combination of HIV medicines as prescribed. Typically, most individuals can reach an undetectable status within six months of starting treatment, which significantly reduces the risk of passing on the virus.

It’s important to note that while HIV medication effectively prevents HIV transmission, it does not protect against other sexually transmitted diseases.

Prevent Trasmission

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a daily pill or bi-monthly injection that slashes the risk of contracting HIV by a staggering 99%. What’s more, it’s usually available at no additional cost to most individuals who qualify.

Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), on the other hand, involves taking a daily pill or receiving a bi-monthly injection following a potential exposure to HIV. Since HIV can establish transmission rapidly, typically within 24 to 36 hours after exposure, prompt action is crucial. Seeking care within 72 hours of the potential exposure is essential for effective PEP.
